NOTICE OF INFORMAL RHOA ALL-MEMBER INFORMATION MEETING / BEACH ACCESS & EROSION
DATE: SUNDAY, MARCH 18, 2018
TIME: 11AM EASTERN TIME
LOCATION: New Buffalo Township Municipal Building
17425 Red Arrow Hwy., New Buffalo
Dear Fellow RHOA Members:
As you may be aware, lake Michigan water levels continue to rise and the USACE is predicting lake levels will rise another 6” this year. The good news this winter is that the lake is doing what it is supposed to do and created an ice barrier/shelf along the shoreline that is protecting the shoreline from erosion during the winter months.
Given the amount of erosion the RHOA shoreline has suffered in recent years and current predictions of increased lake levels, it appears that erosion along the shoreline will get worse before it gets better which will result in (i) beach access points will continue to suffer erosion and challenge beach access for everyone, and (ii) more RHOA lakefront owners reviewing installation of seawalls on their properties. Therefore, the Board will host an informal meeting open to all RHOA Members to communicate the Boards plans to address these issues as the spring and summer season approaches. The goal of the Board is to make sure, to the best of our ability, that all beach access points are open this summer and that all beachfront owners, subject to all permitting and RHOA policy requirements and guidelines, have the ability to access their properties to install seawalls on their properties, if requested.
The meeting will be a general presentation and discussion of the Boards plans to achieve the above-mentioned goals and to address any questions by RHOA Members and solicit community input. If you are unable to attend, a follow-up communication will be sent to all RHOA Members summarizing the meeting discussion, however, you can submit written questions in advance to Linda Behringer at labehringer614@gmail.com.
The meeting will be held at the New Buffalo Township Municipal Building meeting room at 17425 Red Arrow Hwy., New Buffalo, located across the highway from the Galien River County Park entrance.
