New Fireworks Law in New Buffalo Township

An amended ordinance to regulate the use of fireworks in New Buffalo Township went into effect August 31, 2019.  The terms include the dates and hours during which consumer fireworks are permitted, specifically around the New Year's Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day holidays.  On limited days detailed in the ordinance, hours are limited to 11:00 AM to 11:45 PM.  A violation results in a fine of $1,000.00.  
 
Section 2 states permissible hours:
 
No person shall ignite, discharge or use consumer fireworks within New Buffalo Township except during the following dates and times:
  • 11:00 PM on December 31 – 1:00 AM on January 1
  • 11:00 AM – 11:45 PM on the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day
  • 11:00 AM – 11:45 PM on June 29 and 30 and July 1, 2, 3 & 4
  • 11:00 AM – 11:45 PM on July 5 if that date is a Friday or Saturday
  • 11:00 AM – 11:45 PM on the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labor Day
